Air Cooled Rd Meet

Easter Sunday Haynes museum Aircooled RD club meeting

Back in January our magazine editor Del Freegard had posted an idea of a meeting for  the southwest members of the aircooled rd club at haynes museum in the spring.

It was decided that Easter Sunday would be the day. So with a little trepidation I set off on my RD400 at about 9 o,clock intending to be at the  museum for 11.30 am.

Not knowing what the traffic would be like thinking give my self plenty of time, and also the bike has only done a few miles since it was completely rebuilt by my self. . Getting to junction 27  of the m5 took just under an hour . bought some fuel  and wandered up the m5 to Taunton  thinking loads of time to get there. So I stopped at Cartgate on the A303 and had a bacon butty ,  After that I carried on and arrived first at the museum at 11.10 nobody else to be seen. After a while in rolled Martin Paul with his RD400 that he had just put together from a box of bits 3 weeks ago needs a bit of tidying but the engine is good, along with Chris Bennett on his Suzuki his RD 400 is nearly finished just waiting for a set of exhausts to be chromed to finish it. And a friend of theirs a modern triumph,  Very soon after in rolls Del and Baldy

They had ridden down from Chippenham  and Moreton in the Marsh , Baldy having only put the decals on his 250 the night before. Then Paul Cornforth from Newton Abbot turned up looking like a power ranger in red and white one piece leathers and riding the smartest white RD I have seen in a long time and a freind of his with a very nice F2 Honda 750 four.

After a cup of coffee and a chat in the café we took some pics and rolled out towards Glastonbury, with the intentions of getting some pictures of the Tor and the bikes in the background. All went well we were plodding along at 50 60 mph then someone decided to up the pace a little from the back and 2 bikes flew past me. Del took off after them and his engine nipped up so stopped him for a few seconds. Anyhow getting to Glastonbury we could not find anywhere to get a decent shot of the bikes

with the Tor in the back ground , So we all parted company and I rode back down the

A361 to Taunton then dropped in to see my relations at Witheridge for a cuppa and returned home a 7.30 pm.
