SNOWBALL RUN
On 6th
Feb we joined Andy & Fi Pollard for the Motorcycle Aid Snowball
run in aid of the Tsunami appeal. Having left home at 07:15 to
meet at Exeter services at 08:00, we had to stop in Crediton for
Dave to wipe the ice off his visor. I nearly made him turn around
& go home again, it was so cold! It wasn’t much warmer on the way
to Bristol & we were glad of the chance to thaw out at Gordano
while we waited for a couple of other groups to join us. We left
there in convoy & collected another rider & dog en route. I have
never seen a spaniel look so happy on a bike. Now I think about
it, I’ve never seen a spaniel on a bike before!
Next stop
was Strencham Services where we met some groups from Wales. From
there it was a steady run to the National Motorcycle Museum for an
auction & tombola. The initial expectation was for 500 bikes, but
that was a little low. In fact the auction had to be moved outside
as the hall was too small! The final count was 3000 people with
over £8000 raised so far. There were some auction items left over
as well so keep your eye on
www.motorcycleas.org.uk
for the on-line auction.
After a
look around the museum, it was a blast back to Strencham for a
bite to eat. Unfortunately that was as far as we got, the rear
wheel bearing collapsed. A quick SOS call to Ian of MTS though &
he was on his way to rescue us. The recovery service comes highly
recommended!
Congratulations to the main organiser Martin Campbell-Moore, the
run this year was such a success that it has now become an annual
event. The date is being moved to a more biker friendly time of
year though, when hopefully it will be warmer. Keep an eye on the
website for more details.
