The MTS Ducati Sidecar.
As far as is known this is the only grass track sidecar in the
country running a Ducati Engine. The MTS Ducati sidecar was
crafted by Ian Johnston of MTS in 2000. Now raced by father and
son team Alfie and Terry Pearn, Alfie having the Grass track
racing experience and Terry the Ducati know how. It took a couple
of seasons before the bike was running smoothly but as soon as the
team found their feet the titles started rolling in, Including
entry into the British Masters. This consists of the top 24 bikes
from around the UK. Unfortunately in 2004 the team missed out on
qualifying by just 1 point but bettered this in 2005 by getting
through, the British Masters final was raced in September 2005 and
the MTS Ducati team came 20th out of 24, not a bad
result for their first attempt.
In late 2004 the Bike was upgraded from a Ducati 916 to a 996 as
well as being modified in other ways to give the bike more power.
Just when you thought they could do no more Ian, Alfie and Terry
were back at the drawing board in late 2005 to design and build a
whole new bike which will hopefully shed about 60 kilos.
As with all motor sport the costs soon mount up and we are always
looking for sponsorship, this can be in any form including Cash,
Parts or Accessories. In return we will advertise your company on
the bike!
To see the MTS Ducati in action see the Grass track events
listings in the back of this issue.
