Established
in the early 90’s, Winkleigh Motorbike Club is a rural
club with many shapes and sizes of bikes and riders.
Being a rural club we enjoy the open
Devon countryside and winding roads when on one of our
regular organized ride-outs. Our members come from all
backgrounds: a Farrier, a Sailor, a Farmer, a; well you
get the gist.
We meet throughout the year on
Wednesday evenings at the Royal Oak in Dolton. A biker
friendly pub with most excellent beer and food and plenty
of room. During the winter we spend some of our time
planning rides for the better weather and some of these
rides are for Charity.
2005 saw a fabulous 3-Counties ride on
behalf of ‘Breast Cancer Research’.
As you are wondering – the 3-Counties
involves a 250 mile ride of Devon-Cornwall-Dorset roads,
not the whole counties but a scenic route that takes us
into all three counties. We run the event each year for a
different charity and 2006 sees another 3-Counties on the
horizon, May 21st.
The 3-Counties for 2006 is for ‘The
Second Generation Thalidomide Children of Brazil’. They
receive no help from their government and are outcasts in
their community. One of the Winkleigh Motorbike Club
members, Stuart – a thalidomide himself and rider of an
impressive Harley, is organizing and competing a Lands
End to John O’Groats ride in aid of this charity and has
called the event ‘Flid on a Run’. We, as a club, wanted
to support him and his charity this year.
The 3-Counties is one of our larger
ride-outs and other organized ones are: Beaulieu, Thruxton,
Donnington, Ace Café and throughout the summer down to the
bikers meet at Paignton. There will also be a couple of
foreign trips in 2006 for the more adventurous members.
A very warm welcome awaits all
interest in our club and club events so please get in
touch.
